Fields Landing, California, in Collective Memory

Fields Landing, California, in Collective Memory
(A crayon sketch by Red Shuttleworth)

Fields Landing, California, in Collective Memory

Beer-loose in an abandoned Pentecostal
meeting house, bay end of Railroad Avenue,
you oil paint primitive nudes on wood board.

That was when there was a sawmill.
The whalers left behind unpainted shacks.
Then came the seventies' war-crashed.

One man dreamed a far-off rough sea,
carpentered what could resemble a fisherman's
gingerbread house in Warnemunde, Germany.

Night: you shake from passing trains.
Frogs hop in a shower made from a closet.
Mouse traps clap shut until first light.
