Wallet Mermaid
a one-act play
Red Shuttleworth
Wallet Mermaid (cast of two women and three men in their twenties) is a romantic comedy (running time of about 45-minutes). It is contemporary... set in rural central Texas. In their twenties and terminally adolescent, with rodeo dreams and get-rich-quick schemes crumbled, Gregg, Constance, Hank, Shortson, and Sheila are crossed wires... sparking and snapping.
Wallet Mermaid received a reading, directed by the author, at University of Nevada, Las Vegas, on March 23, 1990. It had the following cast: Annelisa Blake, Christopher Danowski, J.B. Lawton, Toni Loppnow, and Ian Bradford Pugh.

Wallet Memaid received development and a reading at Sundance Playwrights Lab on July 18, 1990... thanks to the Lab's Artistic Director, David Kranes, who kindly and generously shoehorned this one-act play into an already full schedule of rehearsals and readings. The Sundance reading of Wallet Mermaid was organized and directed by Lisa Peterson... with Ethan Phillips as dramaturg.
