Eclipse of the Sun: Boxing Poems, by Red Shuttleworth, was published in the summer of 2023 by University of Nevada Press.


Eclipse of the Sun, Red Shuttleworth, presents poems in homage to boxers... protagonists in a tough, hard sport... valiant men... often those with no recourse but to fight in the ring to rise from poverty... a sport that leaves most pro boxers poor and/or damaged.


Red Shuttleworth, oldest active (amateur or professional) boxer, is trained by Isaac Jones at Sacred Scars Gym in Moses Lake, Washington.  Shuttleworth's boxing manager is California attorney Tim Swift.

Red Shuttleworth's Wallet Mermaid (a paperback book available on Amazon) received a reading at Sundance Playwrights Lab 1990.  The reading was directed by Lisa Peterson and the dramaturg was Ethan Phillips.  The Sundance cast for Wallet Mermaid: Eden Alair, Doug Hutchison, Daniel Jenkins, Dana Mills,  and Alyssa McGuinness.

Prairie Creek, Nebraska,  a Red Shuttleworth play written in 1990, is now available as a paperback on Amazon.


Prairie Creek, Nebraska premiered at University of Nebraska at Kearney in the summer of 1991.  It was directed by Jeffrey Green.  


The play, set in the 1980's during the Farm Crisis, portrays the agonies and passions of a small, rural Nebraska town, its people.

 Red Shuttleworth's False Starts is an episodic novella.  A name-withheld Existential man, homeless and getting-by on random opportunities, some quite criminal, travels the American West, its highways and small towns.


Red Shuttleworth received a 2016 Western Heritage Wrangler Award for Poetry... and a 2017 Tanne Foundation Award for Playwriting and Poetry.  His writing has appeared in hundreds of journals over the past half-century.

Keya Paha County was the first full-length play written by Red Shuttleworth... in 1987.  As rancher "Cole" dies from prostate cancer, he also copes with a young lover, a crazed ex-wife, his prodigal son, and the Farm Crisis of the 1980's.


Keya Paha County was first produced in 1989 by State University of New York at Fredonia, where it was directed by Thomas W. Loughlin.
